The Medicaid approval process can be a headache.
We’re here to guide you through the process.

Self-Directed Services for Medicaid Members

Those receiving assistance with activities of daily living (ADL) have the freedom to choose and control their care plan and services. Through programs like Mi Via, Supports Waiver, and the Medically Fragile Waiver, Medicaid members can choose their care and select family or friends as caregivers.
Developing Your Plan of Care
Contact us by phone at (505) 404-7700 or through our website to set up a phone consultation. We use this first conversion to gather your information and assess your needs via phone interview.
We value the insights from families and caregivers and combine them with medical advice to ensure the plan effectively addresses your loved one’s needs.
Once your personalized care plan is developed, it’s submitted to your Medicaid case manager for review. This step confirms the plan meets New Mexico Medicaid waiver requirements and qualifies for coverage.
Our team is experienced in New Mexico’s programs, including the Mi Via Waiver, Supports Waiver, and Medically Fragile Waiver. We’ll guide you through each step so you can maximize the benefits and support available for in-home care.
As your loved one’s health needs evolve, we routinely review and adapt the care plan, making sure they receive the appropriate level of care over time. Your family’s feedback and changing needs guide each update.
Care goes beyond individual plans—it’s about connection. Join our community to access resources, support groups, and events where families and caregivers can share advice, encouragement, and friendship.

Frequently Asked Questions
Alpenglow Homecare helps families navigate New Mexico’s Medicaid program, Turquoise Care. This program allows family caregivers to receive payment for the care they provide to loved ones who need regular support due to medical, chronic, or complex conditions.
Our team helps families understand their options and guides them through every step of navigating New Mexico’s Medicaid programs to become paid caregivers.
Yes. Care needs evolve, and you can adjust or discontinue services at any time. We design flexible Plans of Care that adapt to changes in your loved one’s health, daily routines, or support requirements.
A family member may be paid as long as the care recipient qualifies for the Medicaid program they’re applying to and has an approved Plan of Care outlining their needs. You may qualify as the caregiver if you:
- Can safely provide the tasks listed in the Plan of Care
- Complete program and agency requirements, such as documentation, training, and timesheets
- Can commit to the approved caregiving schedule and responsibilities based on the program
We help you check eligibility and complete the required steps.
We support caregivers through:
- Help with paperwork, approvals, and documentation
- Accurate and timely caregiver pay setup
- Guidance on tracking hours and submitting timesheets
- Ongoing plan reviews as needs change
Our goal is to ensure you’re compensated fairly and can focus on caring for your loved one without administrative stress.
No. Our role is administrative and advisory. We guide families to navigate through Medicaid programs and set up paid-caregiver arrangements so a family member (or another person you select under SDCB/Mi Via) can be compensated. We do not place outside aides or run direct in-home care shifts.
We work closely with you to develop a state-required Plan of Care that reflects your loved one’s medical needs, daily routines, cultural preferences, and home environment.
This personalized plan outlines caregiving tasks, approved weekly hours, and the caregiver compensation structure under the Medicaid program you qualify for.
Alpenglow Homecare supports families statewide, including remote and rural areas. We offer resources and support for families in remote areas, including video calls for caregivers when in-person visits are not possible.
Our services are covered by Medicaid. We can help guide you through the coverage process and ensure Medicaid is used to its fullest extent to assist you and your loved one. We also accept private pay clients.
We welcome ongoing feedback. If your loved one’s needs change or you want to adjust your Plan of Care, you can contact our team anytime. We’ll review your situation, update your plan, and ensure your caregiver hours and services match your family’s evolving needs.
